Lifting spreader beam, Crane spreader beam & Spreader bar

Spreader beam & spreader bar is a type of below-the-hook devices for lifting. Tailored crane spreader beam & crane spreader bar for sale.

Category: Below Hook Devices

Spreader beams of cranes have lugs at both end which is attached to the lifting crane's sling and the two lugs on the underside of spreader beam is used to attach the load. The orientation of spreader beam lugs means the load taken by the crane spreader beam is mainly compressive, so these spreader bars can take a great deal of weight compared to their size.

Custom designed and fabricated spreader bars are available for your lifting and rigging and also the standarded "off the shelf" spreader beam are also provided to you at competitive price. Any question on selecting the right spreader bars for your application or can not find what you exactly looking for, please feel free to contact us. Our specialists and designing team on below the hook devices are there for you to workout the spreader beam with process design for your application . Advantages of spreader beam

Spreader beams are suitable for lifting extra wide and heavy-duty loads. Due to the spreader beams convert lifting forces into pure compression forces, they are not required to be as rigid as lifting beams, which means the spreader beams require less material, and are smaller, lighter in weight and less expensive than lifting beams typically and generally. The design of two lifting points on top of spreader beam bar distributes the weight of the load evenly and reduces the stress on a single lifting attachment. The unique design of crane spreader beam bars reduces the possibility of load tipping, sliding, or bending, and lowers the risk of load crushing or damaging.

For irregular and off-balance loads, telescopic and adjustable lifting spreader beams are preferred which enables riggers to adjust the angle of the top lifting sling, and also make the adjustment of the length of the crane beam itself possible. Fixed and adjustable crane spreader bars are suitable for majority of rigging applications.

Spreader Beam Disadvantages

The spread beam requires much more headroom than that of a lifting beam due to the use of an overhead sling which makes the spearder beam bars are not suitable for applications with low headroom space.

What's more, spreader beams are not suitable for handling loads that requires support throughout the length of the load whereas a lifting beam are likely to be a better solution in the condition.

Lastly, to reduce the risk of the load spinning and to ensure safe lifting, the use of a tag line are required accordingly.

Main types of spreader beams

Crane spreader beams

Standard Duty Spreader Beam

  • The lifting spreader beam offer extra stability to the loads with upper rigging spread between two lift points.
  • The standard spreader beam comeswith a pair of swivel hooks, which are usually used in application with adequate headroom.

Adjustable Telescope Spreader Beam

  • With telescopic beam design, the spreader beam can be used to accommodate various load sizes, from 2 ton through 15 ton, the adjustable increments at 1" and 20 ton through 40 ton , adjustable increments at 12".

Box Spreader Beam

  • The crane spreader beam is used to lift large bulky loads and can be rigged to handle objects with an offset center of gravity.
  • Process box spreader beams are available to meet your specific lifting requirements.
  • Box spreader beams are bolted together with  shackle lugs at the corner which can rotate into position to prevent side loading.
  • Box spreader beam can be designed with telescopic lengths and/or widths with high flexibility to accommodate various sizes of type of loads.
  • Box spreader beam needs enough space due to the use of the sling.

End Cap Spreader Beam

  • The crane spreader lifter is designed with upper rigging spread between two lift points with extra stability during lifting.
  • End cap spreader beam is used in applications with adequte space and supplied with standard upper and lower shackles.
  • Standard pivoting lifting lugs can be adjusted with high  flexibility from 75 degree to 90 degree lower rigging angle .

Comparison of lifting beam & Spreader beam

Crane spreader beams are some of the most frequently used below the hook devices and crane attachment in the field of material handling. Similar with lifting beams, crane spreader beams widens the available lifting points on rigged loads and and ensure the lifting slings at a 90° angle relative to the horizon. Unlike the lifting beam, the spreader bars convert vertical lifting forces into compression forces on the beam whereas the lifting beams convert vertical lifting forces into bending forces on the beams.

Spreader bars for lifting and rigging consist of a beam with two or more lifting lugs on the bottom that attach to lifting slings that attach to the load. How they differ from lifting beams is in their top attachment. Instead of a single centered bail that connects to a crane or hoist hook, spreader bars are suspended by a multi-leg sling that attaches to the bails on top of the spreader beam.

Spreader beam

With basic lifting beam design, it usually has two or more well balanced lifting lugs underneath the beam which are used with a sling or lifting hook to attach and support the load. While in a lifting beam the load exerts a bending stress on the beam which is different with a spreader beam where the load mainly puts a compressive stress in the beam.

Customized spreader beam design for your lifting applications

Spreader beams are available with different capacities and designs. To select the right type of spreader beam for your application is vital and critical for many factors should be take into count such as the overall capacity of the spreader beam and capacity of each individual lifting point which should be calculated and the design of multiple and adjustable lifting points, at fixed or variable increments, for different sized loads, and the nature of loads, rigid or flexible, etc.
