Overhead crane is equipped with an electrical carrier-beam crane spreader with an electromagnetic chuck underneath it, which absorbs and transports loads. Electric overhead cranes are primarily used in steel mills, shipyards, ports, freight yards, and warehousing, and other places, to handle and transport steel tube, steel billets, steel coil, sheet, long containers, H beam, I beam, profiles, and other materials and loads, etc.

The steel profiles handling overhead cranes can be controlled by a single operator from the crane's control cabin, a safe distance away from the material to be transported, or via the automation system.

Profile magnetic beam overhead cranes were developed to replace the risky approach of lifting profiles with lifting straps. These magnets are used to lift metal-strip-bundled profiles (box profiles, flat bar profiles, pipes, angle profiles, and so on). Because this magnetic overhead crane system eliminates the need for lifting straps, no additional labor for the lifting strap is required, and the operation can be completed by a crane operator.
Eliminating the use of lifting straps and wedges results in more efficient stock yard use and lower inventory costs.
Because electro permanent magnets require surface contact to lift the load, only electromagnets are used for profile lifting applications.

Unlike billet lifting applications, which use two magnets, profile bundle lifting applications may use three or four magnets depending on the length of the bundles. The reason for using more magnets is to distribute power and prevent damage to final product profiles. The addition of a third or fourth magnet ensures a balanced grip, preventing the bundle's profiles from bending.
A magnetic system with a telescopic beam may be designed by the manufacturer for lifting profile bundles of varying lengths.
If the lengths of profile bundles are between 4m and 12m, for example, the beam can be designed as a telescopic beam to safely carry such bundles.
Many, if not the vast majority, of steel workshops still use traditional lifting tools, such as lifting clamps or grabs, to handle steel beams/profiles.
Conventional lifting equipment – lifting clamps
The disadvantages of using clamps are that they require manual clamping of the beam and that the surface of the beam is prone to scratches caused by the clamps. Among these, the most dangerous risk may be the sudden drop of a beam in the middle of the air, endangering the personnel on site.
The following factors must be considered when selecting an electromagnetic overhead crane:
