Telescoping bridge cranes are a type of overhead cranes either in under-hung crane deisgn or top running crane design ,or  in a single or double girder design have a secondary bridge that extends beyond the end of the bridge beam. A telescoping overhead crane can extend beyond a support or building column to lift material in an adjacent bay, then retract to pass by the column. These adjustable telescopic cranes typically can extended in one direction, but they can be designed to reach in both directions to maximize crane utilization. If there is enough headroom, telescoping bridge cranes are a low-cost way to add hook coverage to a custom bridge crane.

A telescoping bridge is useful when you need to move a load by an overhead traveling crane into another bay or through an open door. These telescoping bridge cranes have a second bridge beam directly beneath the main bridge beam. This secondary beam is equppied with a series of trolleys and kick-up devices that allow the underhung beam to telescope.
