Work out the installation plan for the single beam gantry crane
When we first met the customer, we went to the single beam gantry crane installation site with him. Then we made a plan for how to install the single beam gantry crane and how many days it would take to complete the job, etc.
1. The process how to install the single beam gantry crane:
- Install the gantry crane travelling rail, installed on the ground.
- Connect the end carriages and bottom beam
- Set up the supporting gantry legs.
- Lift up the main girder and installed the gantry hoist
- Assembly the main beam of the gantry crane on the supporting legs
- Electrical works
2. The gantry crane installation is expected to take 15 days.
3. Installations workers and tools
- Workers needed: at least two welders, four mechanical workers, two electrical workers, one driver to control the 30 ton truck crane, and one driver to control the boom lift/scissor lift.
- Tools required: 4.0 lever weld rod, four chain blocks with a minimum capacity of one ton, and a toolbox containing a wrench, spanner, screw driver, welding machine, and other items.
- We begin work immediately after confirming the above details.
Gantry Crane Rail Installation
- Then we installed the four side rails for gantry crane with the help of workers.
- Because the wheel load on the 5 tons and 30m/20m span gantry crane is heavy, we chose the P38 rail for the customer. Platens and bolts secure the P38 rail to the ground.
- After that, we'll start connecting the bottom beam and legs.

Bottom beam and legs connections
- First and foremost, each gantry crane has two bottom beams and four legs. This means that one bottom beam must connect two legs.
- ·Connections by bolts also.
- Place the bottom beam on the ground with enough space between them, then lift the legs up and slowly move them towards the bottom beam directions. When you want to keep the hole between the bottom beam and the legs in the same place, use one steel stick to hold it in place and connect all the holes quickly with bolts. After all holes have been bolted together, shake it to see if the connection is stable. If everything is fine, repeat with the other leg.
- The engineer must then measure the distance between the two legs. This distance must be the same as the saddle of the main girder.
- If the distance is acceptable, locate one box iron and weld it to the legs to ensure the distance was maintained steadily while lifting up.
- The bolts,clamps, and platens installed for the 5 ton single beam gantry crane secure the rail.

Lifting and setting the legs up on the rail
- After connecting the two side legs and bottom beams, the girders must be installed on the rail. It would be best to set up legs on a small wind day.
- Finding the center of the welded box iron on the two legs and fixing it with the truck chain, then slowly lifting it up and placing it on the rail.
- After lifting the left two legs, we must use wire rope and chain to secure the center of the box iron. One of the left two legs requires two chain block fixes on each side. If this one doesn't work, try another.
Setting up the supporting legs of gantry crane by truck crane
Fix the hoist on the bottom of main girder
- Allow the truck crane to lift the main girder to a height of 1.5 meters above the ground. Ship the hoist to the bottom of the main girder and tighten it up.
- Connect the cables, limit switch, and so on.
Lift and fix the main girder on the top of legs
- When there is one good position between the legs and the main girder, we must use the truck crane to slowly lift the main girder up and find at least two people to climb to the upside of the legs. Each side's two people must ensure that the main girder edge is in the side of the bolts. Then lower it and allow the welder to weld the girders and legs. Before we can remove the truck crane, we must weld at least two spaces on each connection side.
- When all of the welds are completed, the mechanical work is completed.

Electrical works
- The engineer will direct the electrical workers as they work with the help of a boom lift.
- We must test and commission the crane after all mechanical and electrical work is completed.
