Types of Crane hooks
A crane hook is a material handling device or below hook devices that is used to lift and move loads. Crane hooks are classified as single hooks, double hooks, C shape hooks, laminated plate hooks, and so on.
- The single hook is simple to manufacture and is widely used on cranes to lift loads weighing no more than 75 tons.
- For heavy or long load handling , double hooks are typically used on large capacity cranes.
- The laminated plate hook is a load hook made up of multiple sheets or individual segments joined together by rivets. The laminated plate hook is primarily used for transporting molten liquids in casting ladles and other heavy loads.
Safety operation of hook cranes
Don'ts when slinging a load
- Excessive strain on slings, fixtures, and cranes is not permitted.
- Slings should not be twisted or tied in knots, nor should bolts, nails, or pieces of wire be used to shorten them.
- Do not splice broken slings together.
- Ride on hooks or loads at all costs.
- Allow workers to walk or work while carrying a load.
- Do not try to pull or push loads to a location that is not beneath the hoist.
- Slings should not be dragged. Avoid using a crane to pull slings out from under loads.
- Do not leave any unused slings, accessories, or blocking on the floor.
- Do not carry a load by inserting the hook's point into a chain link.
- Slings should not be hammered into place.
- Loose materials should never be left on a load.
- Slings that are stretched, broken, or defective should not be used.
- Do not leave unattended suspended loads.
- Do not expose slings to temperatures above the manufacturer's recommended range.
